عَمَّ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ
Transliteration 1: AAamma yatasaaloona
Yusuf Ali 1: Concerning what are they disputing?
Mohsin Khan: 1: What are they asking (one another) about?
Saheeh: 1: About what are they asking one another?
Urdu 1: کس چیز کی بابت وہ آپس میں سوال کرتے ہیں


2  
عَنِ النَّبَإِ الْعَظِيمِ
Transliteration 2: AAani alnnabai alAAatheemi
Yusuf Ali 2: Concerning the Great News,
Mohsin Khan: 2: About the great news, (i.e. Islamic Monotheism, the Qur'an, which Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم brought and the Day of Resurrection)
Saheeh: 2: About the great news -
Urdu 2: اس بڑی خبر کے متعلق


3  
الَّذِي هُمْ فِيهِ مُخْتَلِفُونَ
Transliteration 3: Allathee hum feehi mukhtalifoona
Yusuf Ali 3: About which they cannot agree.
Mohsin Khan: 3: About which they are in disagreement.
Saheeh: 3: That over which they are in disagreement.
Urdu 3: جس میں وہ اختلاف کر رہے ہیں


4  
كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ
Transliteration 4: Kalla sayaAAlamoona
Yusuf Ali 4: Verily, they shall soon (come to) know!
Mohsin Khan: 4: Nay, they will come to know!
Saheeh: 4: No! They are going to know.
Urdu 4: ہرگز ایسا نہیں عنقریب وہ جان لیں گے


5  
ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ
Transliteration 5: Thumma kalla sayaAAlamoona
Yusuf Ali 5: Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know!
Mohsin Khan: 5: Nay, again, they will come to know!
Saheeh: 5: Then, no! They are going to know.
Urdu 5: پھر ہر گز ایسا نہیں عنقریب وہ جان لیں گے


6  
أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ الْأَرْضَ مِهَادًا
Transliteration 6: Alam najAAali alarda mihadan
Yusuf Ali 6: Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse,
Mohsin Khan: 6: Have We not made the earth as a bed,
Saheeh: 6: Have We not made the earth a resting place?
Urdu 6: کیا ہم نے زمین کو فرش نہیں بنایا


7  
وَالْجِبَالَ أَوْتَادًا
Transliteration 7: Waaljibala awtadan
Yusuf Ali 7: And the mountains as pegs?
Mohsin Khan: 7: And the mountains as pegs?
Saheeh: 7: And the mountains as stakes?
Urdu 7: اور پہاڑوں کو میخیں


8  
وَخَلَقْنَاكُمْ أَزْوَاجًا
Transliteration 8: Wakhalaqnakum azwajan
Yusuf Ali 8: And (have We not) created you in pairs,
Mohsin Khan: 8: And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.).
Saheeh: 8: And We created you in pairs
Urdu 8: اور ہم نے تمہیں جوڑے جوڑے پیدا کیا


9  
وَجَعَلْنَا نَوْمَكُمْ سُبَاتًا
Transliteration 9: WajaAAalna nawmakum subatan
Yusuf Ali 9: And made your sleep for rest,
Mohsin Khan: 9: And We have made your sleep as a thing for rest.
Saheeh: 9: And made your sleep [a means for] rest
Urdu 9: اور تمہاری نیند کو راحت کا باعث بنایا


10  
وَجَعَلْنَا اللَّيْلَ لِبَاسًا
Transliteration 10: WajaAAalna allayla libasan
Yusuf Ali 10: And made the night as a covering,
Mohsin Khan: 10: And We have made the night as a covering (through its darkness),
Saheeh: 10: And made the night as clothing
Urdu 10: اور رات کو پردہ پوش بنایا


11  
وَجَعَلْنَا النَّهَارَ مَعَاشًا
Transliteration 11: WajaAAalna alnnahara maAAashan
Yusuf Ali 11: And made the day as a means of subsistence?
Mohsin Khan: 11: And We have made the day for livelihood.
Saheeh: 11: And made the day for livelihood
Urdu 11: اور دن کو روزی کمانے کے لیے بنایا


12  
وَبَنَيْنَا فَوْقَكُمْ سَبْعًا شِدَادًا
Transliteration 12: Wabanayna fawqakum sabAAan shidadan
Yusuf Ali 12: And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments,
Mohsin Khan: 12: And We have built above you seven strong (heavens),
Saheeh: 12: And constructed above you seven strong [heavens]
Urdu 12: اور ہم نے تمہارے اوپر سات سخت (آسمان) بنائے


13  
وَجَعَلْنَا سِرَاجًا وَهَّاجًا
Transliteration 13: WajaAAalna sirajan wahhajan
Yusuf Ali 13: And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour?
Mohsin Khan: 13: And We have made (therein) a shining lamp (sun).
Saheeh: 13: And made [therein] a burning lamp
Urdu 13: اور ایک جگمگاتا ہوا چراغ بنایا


14  
وَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ الْمُعْصِرَاتِ مَاءً ثَجَّاجًا
Transliteration 14: Waanzalna mina almuAAsirati maan thajjajan
Yusuf Ali 14: And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance,
Mohsin Khan: 14: And We have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water.
Saheeh: 14: And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water
Urdu 14: اور ہم نے بادلوں سے زور کا پانی اتارا


15  
لِّنُخْرِجَ بِهِ حَبًّا وَنَبَاتًا
Transliteration 15: Linukhrija bihi habban wanabatan
Yusuf Ali 15: That We may produce therewith corn and vegetables,
Mohsin Khan: 15: That We may produce therewith corn and vegetations,
Saheeh: 15: That We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetation
Urdu 15: تاکہ ہم اس سے اناج اور گھاس اگائیں


16  
وَجَنَّاتٍ أَلْفَافًا
Transliteration 16: Wajannatin alfafan
Yusuf Ali 16: And gardens of luxurious growth?
Mohsin Khan: 16: And gardens of thick growth.
Saheeh: 16: And gardens of entwined growth.
Urdu 16: اور گھنے باغ اگائیں


17  
إِنَّ يَوْمَ الْفَصْلِ كَانَ مِيقَاتًا
Transliteration 17: Inna yawma alfasli kana meeqatan
Yusuf Ali 17: Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed,
Mohsin Khan: 17: Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time,
Saheeh: 17: Indeed, the Day of Judgement is an appointed time -
Urdu 17: بے شک فیصلہ کا دن معین ہو چکا ہے


18  
يَوْمَ يُنفَخُ فِي الصُّورِ فَتَأْتُونَ أَفْوَاجًا
Transliteration 18: Yawma yunfakhu fee alssoori fatatoona afwajan
Yusuf Ali 18: The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds;
Mohsin Khan: 18: The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and you shall come forth in crowds (groups after groups). [Tafsir At-Tabari]
Saheeh: 18: The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes
Urdu 18: جس دن صور میں پھونکا جائے گا پھر تم گروہ درگروہ چلے آؤ گے


19  
وَفُتِحَتِ السَّمَاءُ فَكَانَتْ أَبْوَابًا
Transliteration 19: Wafutihati alssamao fakanat abwaban
Yusuf Ali 19: And the heavens shall be opened as if there were doors,
Mohsin Khan: 19: And the heaven shall be opened, and it will become as gates,
Saheeh: 19: And the heaven is opened and will become gateways
Urdu 19: اور آسمان کھولا جائے گا تو (اس میں) دروازے ہوجائیں گے


20  
وَسُيِّرَتِ الْجِبَالُ فَكَانَتْ سَرَابًا
Transliteration 20: Wasuyyirati aljibalu fakanat saraban
Yusuf Ali 20: And the mountains shall vanish, as if they were a mirage.
Mohsin Khan: 20: And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage.
Saheeh: 20: And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage.
Urdu 20: اور پہاڑ اڑائے جائیں گے توریت ہو جائیں گے


21  
إِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ كَانَتْ مِرْصَادًا
Transliteration 21: Inna jahannama kanat mirsadan
Yusuf Ali 21: Truly Hell is as a place of ambush,
Mohsin Khan: 21: Truly, Hell is a place of ambush -
Saheeh: 21: Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait
Urdu 21: بے شک دوزخ گھات میں لگی ہے


22  
لِّلطَّاغِينَ مَآبًا
Transliteration 22: Lilttagheena maaban
Yusuf Ali 22: For the transgressors a place of destination:
Mohsin Khan: 22: A dwelling place for the Taghun (those who transgress the boundary limits set by Allah like polytheists, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah, hyprocrites, sinners, criminals),
Saheeh: 22: For the transgressors, a place of return,
Urdu 22: سرشکوں کے لیے ٹھکانہ ہے


23  
لَّابِثِينَ فِيهَا أَحْقَابًا
Transliteration 23: Labitheena feeha ahqaban
Yusuf Ali 23: They will dwell therein for ages.
Mohsin Khan: 23: They will abide therein for ages.
Saheeh: 23: In which they will remain for ages [unending].
Urdu 23: کہ وہ اس میں ہمیشہ پڑے رہیں گے


24  
لَّا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا بَرْدًا وَلَا شَرَابًا
Transliteration 24: La yathooqoona feeha bardan wala sharaban
Yusuf Ali 24: Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink,
Mohsin Khan: 24: Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink.
Saheeh: 24: They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink
Urdu 24: نہ وہاں کسی ٹھنڈک کا مزہ چکھیں گے اور نہ کسی پینے کی چیز کا


25  
إِلَّا حَمِيمًا وَغَسَّاقًا
Transliteration 25: Illa hameeman waghassaqan
Yusuf Ali 25: Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold,
Mohsin Khan: 25: Except boiling water, and dirty wound discharges -
Saheeh: 25: Except scalding water and [foul] purulence -
Urdu 25: مگر گرم پانی اور بہتی پیپ


26  
جَزَاءً وِفَاقًا
Transliteration 26: Jazaan wifaqan
Yusuf Ali 26: A fitting recompense (for them).
Mohsin Khan: 26: An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes).
Saheeh: 26: An appropriate recompense.
Urdu 26: پوراپورا بدلہ ملے گا


27  
إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا لَا يَرْجُونَ حِسَابًا
Transliteration 27: Innahum kanoo la yarjoona hisaban
Yusuf Ali 27: For that they used not to fear any account (for their deeds),
Mohsin Khan: 27: For verily, they used not to look for a reckoning.
Saheeh: 27: Indeed, they were not expecting an account
Urdu 27: بے شک وہ حساب کی امید نہ رکھتے تھے


28  
وَكَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِنَا كِذَّابًا
Transliteration 28: Wakaththaboo biayatina kiththaban
Yusuf Ali 28: But they (impudently) treated Our Signs as false.
Mohsin Khan: 28: But they belied Our Ayat (proofs, evidence, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, and that which Our Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم brought) completely.
Saheeh: 28: And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial.
Urdu 28: اور ہماری آیتوں کوبہت جھٹلایا کرتے تھے


29  
وَكُلَّ شَيْءٍ أَحْصَيْنَاهُ كِتَابًا
Transliteration 29: Wakulla shayin ahsaynahu kitaban
Yusuf Ali 29: And all things have We preserved on record.
Mohsin Khan: 29: And all things We have recorded in a Book.
Saheeh: 29: But all things We have enumerated in writing.
Urdu 29: اور ہم نے ہر چیز کو کتاب میں شمار کر رکھا ہے


30  
فَذُوقُوا فَلَن نَّزِيدَكُمْ إِلَّا عَذَابًا
Transliteration 30: Fathooqoo falan nazeedakum illa AAathaban
Yusuf Ali 30: "So taste ye (the fruits of your deeds); for no increase shall We grant you, except in Punishment."
Mohsin Khan: 30: So taste you (the results of your evil actions). No increase shall We give you, except in torment.
Saheeh: 30: "So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment."
Urdu 30: پس چکھو سو ہم تمہارے لیے عذاب ہی زیادہ کرتے رہیں گے


31  
إِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ مَفَازًا
Transliteration 31: Inna lilmuttaqeena mafazan
Yusuf Ali 31: Verily for the Righteous there will be a fulfilment of (the heart's) desires;
Mohsin Khan: 31: Verily, for the Muttaqun, there will be a success (Paradise);
Saheeh: 31: Indeed, for the righteous is attainment -
Urdu 31: بے شک پرہیزگاروں کے لیے کامیابی ہے


32  
حَدَائِقَ وَأَعْنَابًا
Transliteration 32: Hadaiqa waaAAnaban
Yusuf Ali 32: Gardens enclosed, and grapevines;
Mohsin Khan: 32: Gardens and vineyards,
Saheeh: 32: Gardens and grapevines
Urdu 32: باغ اور انگور


33  
وَكَوَاعِبَ أَتْرَابًا
Transliteration 33: WakawaAAiba atraban
Yusuf Ali 33: And voluptuous women of equal age;
Mohsin Khan: 33: And young full-breasted (mature) maidens of equal age,
Saheeh: 33: And full-breasted [companions] of equal age
Urdu 33: اور نوجوان ہم عمر عورتیں


34  
وَكَأْسًا دِهَاقًا
Transliteration 34: Wakasan dihaqan
Yusuf Ali 34: And a cup full (to the brim).
Mohsin Khan: 34: And a full cup (of wine).
Saheeh: 34: And a full cup.
Urdu 34: اور پیالے چھلکتے ہوئے


35  
لَّا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا كِذَّابًا
Transliteration 35: La yasmaAAoona feeha laghwan wala kiththaban
Yusuf Ali 35: No vanity shall they hear therein, nor Untruth:-
Mohsin Khan: 35: No Laghw (dirty, false, evil talk) shall they hear therein, nor lying;
Saheeh: 35: No ill speech will they hear therein or any falsehood -
Urdu 35: نہ وہاں بیہودہ باتیں سنیں گے اور نہ جھوٹ


36  
جَزَاءً مِّن رَّبِّكَ عَطَاءً حِسَابًا
Transliteration 36: Jazaan min rabbika AAataan hisaban
Yusuf Ali 36: Recompense from thy Lord, a gift, (amply) sufficient,
Mohsin Khan: 36: A reward from your Lord, an ample calculated gift (according to the best of their good deeds),
Saheeh: 36: [As] reward from your Lord, [a generous] gift [made due by] account,
Urdu 36: آپ کے رب کی طرف سے حسب اعمال بدلہ عطا ہوگا


37  
رَّبِّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا الرَّحْمَـٰنِ ۖ لَا يَمْلِكُونَ مِنْهُ خِطَابًا
Transliteration 37: Rabbi alssamawati waalardi wama baynahuma alrrahmani la yamlikoona minhu khitaban
Yusuf Ali 37: (From) the Lord of the heavens and the earth, and all between, (Allah) Most Gracious: None shall have power to argue with Him.
Mohsin Khan: 37: (From) the Lord of the heavens and the earth, and whatsoever is in between them, the Most Gracious, with Whom they cannot dare to speak (on the Day of Resurrection except by His Leave).
Saheeh: 37: [From] the Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, the Most Merciful. They possess not from Him [authority for] speech.
Urdu 37: جو آسمانوں اور زمین کا رب ہے اور جو کچھ ان کے درمیان ہے بڑامہربان کہ وہ اس سے بات نہیں کر سکیں گے


38  
يَوْمَ يَقُومُ الرُّوحُ وَالْمَلَائِكَةُ صَفًّا ۖ لَّا يَتَكَلَّمُونَ إِلَّا مَنْ أَذِنَ لَهُ الرَّحْمَـٰنُ وَقَالَ صَوَابًا
Transliteration 38: Yawma yaqoomu alrroohu waalmalaikatu saffan la yatakallamoona illa man athina lahu alrrahmanu waqala sawaban
Yusuf Ali 38: The Day that the Spirit and the angels will stand forth in ranks, none shall speak except any who is permitted by (Allah) Most Gracious, and He will say what is right.
Mohsin Khan: 38: The Day that Ar-Ruh [Jibril (Gabriel) or another angel] and the angels will stand forth in rows, they will not speak except him whom the Most Gracious (Allah) allows, and he will speak what is right.
Saheeh: 38: The Day that the Spirit and the angels will stand in rows, they will not speak except for one whom the Most Merciful permits, and he will say what is correct.
Urdu 38: جس دن جبرائیل اور سب فرشتے صف باندھ کر کھڑے ہوں گےکوئی نہیں بولے گا مگر وہ جس کو رحمنٰ اجازت دے گا اور وہ بات ٹھیک کہے گا


39  
ذَ‌ٰلِكَ الْيَوْمُ الْحَقُّ ۖ فَمَن شَاءَ اتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِ مَآبًا
Transliteration 39: Thalika alyawmu alhaqqu faman shaa ittakhatha ila rabbihi maaban
Yusuf Ali 39: That Day will be the sure Reality: Therefore, whoso will, let him take a (straight) return to his Lord!
Mohsin Khan: 39: That is (without doubt) the True Day. So, whosoever wills, let him seek a place with (or a way to) His Lord (by obeying Him in this worldly life)!
Saheeh: 39: That is the True Day; so he who wills may take to his Lord a [way of] return.
Urdu 39: یہ یقینی دن ہے پس جو چاہے اپنے رب کے پاس ٹھکانا بنا لے


40  
إِنَّا أَنذَرْنَاكُمْ عَذَابًا قَرِيبًا يَوْمَ يَنظُرُ الْمَرْءُ مَا قَدَّمَتْ يَدَاهُ وَيَقُولُ الْكَافِرُ يَا لَيْتَنِي كُنتُ تُرَابًا
Transliteration 40: Inna antharnakum AAathaban qareeban yawma yanthuru almaro ma qaddamat yadahu wayaqoolu alkafiru ya laytanee kuntu turaban
Yusuf Ali 40: Verily, We have warned you of a Penalty near, the Day when man will see (the deeds) which his hands have sent forth, and the Unbeliever will say, "Woe unto me! Would that I were (metre) dust!"
Mohsin Khan: 40: Verily, We have warned you of a near torment - the Day when man will see that (the deeds) which his hands have sent forth, and the disbeliever will say: "Woe to me! Would that I were dust!"
Saheeh: 40: Indeed, We have warned you of a near punishment on the Day when a man will observe what his hands have put forth and the disbeliever will say, "Oh, I wish that I were dust!"
Urdu 40: بے شک ہم نے تمہیں ایک عنقریب آنے والے عذاب سے ڈرایا ہے جس دن آدمی دیکھے گا جو کچھ اس کے ہاتھوں نے آگے بھیجا تھا اور کافر کہے گا اے کاش میں مٹی ہو گیا ہوتا
