| 45. | وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا إِلَىٰ ثَمُودَ أَخَاهُمْ صَالِحًا أَنِ اعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ فَإِذَا هُمْ فَرِيقَانِ يَخْتَصِمُونَ |
| Transliteration: | Walaqad arsalna ila thamooda akhahum salihan ani oAAbudoo Allaha faitha hum fareeqani yakhtasimoona |
| Yusuf Ali: | We sent (aforetime), to the Thamud, their brother Salih, saying, "Serve Allah": But behold, they became two factions quarrelling with each other. |
| Shakir: | And certainly We sent to Samood their brother Salih, saying: Serve Allah; and lo! they became two sects quarrelling with each other. |
| Pickthall: | And We verily sent unto Thamud their brother Salih, saying: Worship Allah. And lo! they (then became two parties quarrelling. |
| Mohsin Khan: | And indeed We sent to Thamud their brother Salih, saying: "Worship Allah (Alone and none else). Then look! They became two parties (believers and disbelievers) quarreling with each other." |
| Saheeh: | And We had certainly sent to Thamud their brother Salih, [saying], "Worship Allah," and at once they were two parties conflicting. |
| Urdu: | اور ہم نے ثمود کی طرف ان کے بھائی صالح کو بھیجاکہ الله کی بندگی کرو پھر وہ دو فریق ہو کر آپس میں جھگڑنے لگے |

| 46. | قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ لِمَ تَسْتَعْجِلُونَ بِالسَّيِّئَةِ قَبْلَ الْحَسَنَةِ ۖ لَوْلَا تَسْتَغْفِرُونَ اللَّهَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ |
| Transliteration: | Qala ya qawmi lima tastaAAjiloona bialssayyiati qabla alhasanati lawla tastaghfiroona Allaha laAAallakum turhamoona |
| Yusuf Ali: | He said: "O my people! why ask ye to hasten on the evil in preference to the good? If only ye ask Allah for forgiveness, ye may hope to receive mercy. |
| Shakir: | He said: O my people! why do you seek to hasten on the evil before the good? Why do you not ask forgiveness of Allah so that you may be dealt with mercifully? |
| Pickthall: | He said: O my people! Why will ye hasten on the evil rather than the good? Why will ye not ask pardon of Allah, that ye may receive mercy. |
| Mohsin Khan: | He said: "O my people! Why do you seek to hasten the evil (torment) before the good (Allah's Mercy)? Why seek you not the Forgiveness of Allah, that you may receive mercy?" |
| Saheeh: | He said, "O my people, why are you impatient for evil instead of good? Why do you not seek forgiveness of Allah that you may receive mercy?" |
| Urdu: | کہا اے میری قوم بھلائی سے پہلے برائی کو کیوں جلدی مانگتے ہو الله سے گناہ کیوں نہیں بخشواتے تاکہ تم پر رحم کیا جائے |

| 47. | قَالُوا اطَّيَّرْنَا بِكَ وَبِمَن مَّعَكَ ۚ قَالَ طَائِرُكُمْ عِندَ اللَّهِ ۖ بَلْ أَنتُمْ قَوْمٌ تُفْتَنُونَ |
| Transliteration: | Qaloo ittayyarna bika wabiman maAAaka qala tairukum AAinda Allahi bal antum qawmun tuftanoona |
| Yusuf Ali: | They said: "Ill omen do we augur from thee and those that are with thee". He said: "Your ill omen is with Allah; yea, ye are a people under trial." |
| Shakir: | They said: We have met with ill luck on account of you and on account of those with you. He said: The cause of your evil fortune is with Allah; nay, you are a people who are tried. |
| Pickthall: | They said: We augur evil of thee and those with thee. He said: Your evil augury is with Allah. Nay, but ye are folk that are being tested. |
| Mohsin Khan: | They said: "We augur ill omen from you and those with you." He said: "Your ill omen is with Allah; nay, but you are a people that are being tested." |
| Saheeh: | They said, "We consider you a bad omen, you and those with you." He said, "Your omen is with Allah. Rather, you are a people being tested." |
| Urdu: | کہنے لگے ہمیں تو تجھ سے اور تیرے ساتھیوں سے نحوست معلوم ہوئی کہا تہاری نحوست الله کی طرف سے ہے بلکہ تم لوگ آزمائش میں ڈالے گئے ہو |

| 48. | وَكَانَ فِي الْمَدِينَةِ تِسْعَةُ رَهْطٍ يُفْسِدُونَ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَا يُصْلِحُونَ |
| Transliteration: | Wakana fee almadeenati tisAAatu rahtin yufsidoona fee alardi wala yuslihoona |
| Yusuf Ali: | There were in the city nine men of a family, who made mischief in the land, and would not reform. |
| Shakir: | And there were in the city nine persons who made mischief in the land and did not act aright. |
| Pickthall: | And there were in the city nine persons who made mischief in the land and reformed not. |
| Mohsin Khan: | And there were in the city nine men (from the sons of their chiefs), who made mischief in the land, and would not reform. |
| Saheeh: | And there were in the city nine family heads causing corruption in the land and not amending [its affairs]. |
| Urdu: | اور اس شہر میں نو آدمی ایسے تھے جو زمین میں فساد کرتے تھے اوراصلاح نہیں کرتے تھے |

| 49. | قَالُوا تَقَاسَمُوا بِاللَّهِ لَنُبَيِّتَنَّهُ وَأَهْلَهُ ثُمَّ لَنَقُولَنَّ لِوَلِيِّهِ مَا شَهِدْنَا مَهْلِكَ أَهْلِهِ وَإِنَّا لَصَادِقُونَ |
| Transliteration: | Qaloo taqasamoo biAllahi lanubayyitannahu waahlahu thumma lanaqoolanna liwaliyyihi ma shahidna mahlika ahlihi wainna lasadiqoona |
| Yusuf Ali: | They said: "Swear a mutual oath by Allah that we shall make a secret night attack on him and his people, and that we shall then say to his heir (when he seeks vengeance): 'We were not present at the slaughter of his people, and we are positively telling the truth.'" |
| Shakir: | They said: Swear to each other by Allah that we will certainly make a sudden attack on him and his family by night, then we will say to his heir: We did not witness the destruction of his family, and we are most surely truthful. |
| Pickthall: | They said: Swear one to another by Allah that we verily will attack him and his household by night, and afterward we will surely say unto his friend: We witnessed not the destruction of his household. And lo! we are truthtellers. |
| Mohsin Khan: | They said: "Swear one to another by Allah that we shall make a secret night attack on him and his household, and thereafter we will surely say to his near relatives: 'We witnessed not the destruction of his household, and verily we are telling the truth.'" |
| Saheeh: | They said, "Take a mutual oath by Allah that we will kill him by night, he and his family. Then we will say to his executor, 'We did not witness the destruction of his family, and indeed, we are truthful.' " |
| Urdu: | کہنے لگے آپس میں الله کی قسم کھاؤ کہ صالح اور اس کے گھر والوں پر شبخوں ماریں پھر اس کے وارث سے کہہ دیں ہم تو اس کے کنبہ کی ہلاکت کے وقت موجود ہی نہ تھے اور بے شک ہم سچے ہیں |

| 50. | وَمَكَرُوا مَكْرًا وَمَكَرْنَا مَكْرًا وَهُمْ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ |
| Transliteration: | Wamakaroo makran wamakarna makran wahum la yashAAuroona |
| Yusuf Ali: | They plotted and planned, but We too planned, even while they perceived it not. |
| Shakir: | And they planned a plan, and We planned a plan while they perceived not. |
| Pickthall: | So they plotted a plot: and We plotted a plot, while they perceived not. |
| Mohsin Khan: | So they plotted a plot, and We plotted a plot, while they perceived not. |
| Saheeh: | And they planned a plan, and We planned a plan, while they perceived not. |
| Urdu: | اور انہوں نے ایک داؤ کیا اور ہم نے بھی ایساداؤ کیا کہ انہیں خبربھی نہ ہوئی |

| 51. | فَانظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ مَكْرِهِمْ أَنَّا دَمَّرْنَاهُمْ وَقَوْمَهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ |
| Transliteration: | Faonthur kayfa kana AAaqibatu makrihim anna dammarnahum waqawmahum ajmaAAeena |
| Yusuf Ali: | Then see what was the end of their plot!- this, that We destroyed them and their people, all (of them). |
| Shakir: | See, then, how was the end of their plan that We destroyed them and their people, all (of them). |
| Pickthall: | Then see the nature of the consequence of their plotting, for lo! We destroyed them and their people, every one. |
| Mohsin Khan: | Then see how was the end of their plot! Verily! We destroyed them and their nation, all together. |
| Saheeh: | Then look how was the outcome of their plan - that We destroyed them and their people, all. |
| Urdu: | پھر دیکھو ان کے داؤ کا کیا انجام ہوا کہ ہم نے انہیں اوران کی ساری قوم کو ہلاک کر دیا |

| 52. | فَتِلْكَ بُيُوتُهُمْ خَاوِيَةً بِمَا ظَلَمُوا ۗ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَةً لِّقَوْمٍ يَعْلَمُونَ |
| Transliteration: | Fatilka buyootuhum khawiyatan bima thalamoo inna fee thalika laayatan liqawmin yaAAlamoona |
| Yusuf Ali: | Now such were their houses, - in utter ruin, - because they practised wrong-doing. Verily in this is a Sign for people of knowledge. |
| Shakir: | So those are their houses fallen down because they were unjust, most surely there is a sign in this for a people who know. |
| Pickthall: | See, yonder are their dwellings empty and in ruins because they did wrong. Lo! herein is indeed a portent for a people who have knowledge. |
| Mohsin Khan: | These are their houses in utter ruin, for they did wrong. Verily, in this is indeed an Ayah (a lesson or a sign) for people who know. |
| Saheeh: | So those are their houses, desolate because of the wrong they had done. Indeed in that is a sign for people who know. |
| Urdu: | سو یہ ان کے گھر ہیں جو ان کے ظلم کے سبب سے ویران پڑے ہیں بے شک اس میں دانشمندو ں کے لیے عبرت ہے |
