(1) And if We give man a taste of Mercy from Us, and then withdraw it from him, verily! he is despairing, ungrateful.

(2) So, when they despaired of him, they held a conference in private. The eldest among them said: "Know you not that your father did take an oath from you in Allah's Name, and before this you did fail in your duty with Yusuf (Joseph)? Therefore I will not leave this land until my father permits me, or Allah decides my case (by releasing Benjamin) and He is the Best of the judges.

(3) "O my sons! Go you and enquire about Yusuf (Joseph) and his brother, and never give up hope of Allah's Mercy. Certainly no one despairs of Allah's Mercy, except the people who disbelieve."

(4) They (the angels) said: "We give you glad tidings in truth. So be not of the despairing."

(5) [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "And who despairs of the Mercy of his Lord except those who are astray?"

(6) And when We bestow Our Grace on man (the disbeliever), he turns away and becomes arrogant (far away from the Right Path). And when evil touches him, he is in great despair.

(7) Until, when We open for them the gate of severe punishment, then lo! they will be plunged into destruction with deep regrets, sorrows and in despair.

(8) And on the Day when the Hour will be established, the Mujrimun (disbelievers, sinners, criminals, polytheists) will be plunged into destruction with (deep regrets, sorrows, and) despair.

(9) And when We cause mankind to taste of mercy, they rejoice therein; but when some evil afflicts them because of (evil deeds and sins) that their (own) hands have sent forth, behold, they are in despair!

(10) And verily before that (rain) - just before it was sent down upon them - they were in despair!
