(1) And of them there are some who listen to you; but We have set veils on their hearts, so they understand it not, and deafness in their ears; and even if they see every one of the Ayat (proofs, evidence, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) they will not believe therein; to the point that when they come to you to argue with you, the disbelievers say: "These are nothing but tales of the men of old."

(2) And when Our Verses (of the Qur'an) are recited to them, they say: "We have heard (the Qur'an); if we wish we can say the like of this. This is nothing but the tales of the ancients."

(3) And when it is said to them: "What is it that your Lord has sent down (unto Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم)?" They say: "tales of the men of old!"

(4) "Verily, this we have been promised - we and our fathers before (us)! This is only the tales of the ancients!"

(5) And they say: "tales of the ancients, which he has written down: and they are dictated to him morning and afternoon."

(6) "This is no other than the false tales and religion of the ancients, [Tafsir At-Tabari]

(7) "Indeed we were promised this - we and our forefathers before (us), verily, these are nothing but tales of ancients."

(8) But they said: "Our Lord! Make the stages between our journey longer," and they wronged themselves; so We made them as tales (in the land), and We dispersed them all totally. Verily, in this are indeed signs for every steadfast, grateful (person).

(9) But he who says to his parents: "Fie upon you both! Do you hold out the promise to me that I shall be raised up (again) when generations before me have passed away (without rising)?" While they (father and mother) invoke Allah for help (and rebuke their son): "Woe to you! Believe! Verily, the Promise of Allah is true." But he says: "This is nothing but the tales of the ancient."

(10) When Our Verses (of the Qur'an) are recited to him, he says: "tales of the men of old!"
