(31) Surely We revealed the Taurat in which was guidance and light; with it the prophets who submitted themselves (to Allah) judged (matters) for those who were Jews, and the masters of Divine knowledge and the doctors, because they were required to guard (part) of the Book of Allah, and they were witnesses thereof; therefore fear not the people and fear Me, and do not take a small price for My communications; and whoever did not judge by what Allah revealed, those are they that are the unbelievers.

(32) And certainly We sent (apostles) to nations before you then We seized them with distress and affliction in order that they might humble themselves.

(33) Yet why did they not, when Our punishment came to them, humble themselves? But their hearts hardened and the Shaitan made what they did fair-seeming to them.

(34) Then he caused them to fall by deceit; so when they tasted of the tree, their evil inclinations became manifest to them, and they both began to cover themselves with the leaves of the garden; and their Lord called out to them: Did I not forbid you both from that tree and say to you that the Shaitan is your open enemy?

(35) Who is then more unjust than he who forges a lie against Allah or rejects His communications? (As for) those, their portion of the Book shall reach them, until when Our apostles come to them causing them to die, they shall say: Where is that which you used to call upon besides Allah? They would say: They are gone away from us; and they shall bear witness against themselves that they were unbelievers

(36) And the answer of his people was no other than that they said: Turn them out of your town, surely they are a people who seek to purify (themselves).

(37) And We did not send a prophet in a town but We overtook its people with distress and affliction in order that they might humble themselves.

(38) And the enchanters were thrown down, prostrating (themselves).

(39) What! they associate (with Him) that which does not create any thing, while they are themselves created!

(40) And they have no power to give them help, nor can they help themselves.
