(1) Have you not seen those to whom it was said: Withhold your hands, and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate; but when fighting is prescribed for them, lo! a party of them fear men as they ought to have feared Allah, or (even) with a greater fear, and say: Our Lord! why hast Thou ordained fighting for us? Wherefore didst Thou not grant us a delay to a near end? Say: The provision of this world is short, and the hereafter is better for him who guards (against evil); and you shall not be wronged the husk of a date stone.

(2) Two men of those who feared, upon both of whom Allah had bestowed a favor, said: Enter upon them by the gate, for when you have entered it you shall surely be victorious, and on Allah should you rely if you are believers.

(3) And as for the boy, his parents were believers and we feared lest he should make disobedience and ingratitude to come upon them:

(4) So I fled from you when I feared you, then my Lord granted me wisdom and made me of the apostles;

(5) And to grant them power in the land, and to make Firon and Haman and their hosts see from them what they feared.

(6) And when you said to him to whom Allah had shown favor and to whom you had shown a favor: Keep your wife to yourself and be careful of (your duty to) Allah; and you concealed in your soul what Allah would bring to light, and you feared men, and Allah had a greater right that you should fear Him. But when Zaid had accomplished his want of her, We gave her to you as a wife, so that there should be no difficulty for the believers in respect of the wives of their adopted sons, when they have accomplished their want of them; and Allah's command shall be performed.

(7) Surely We offered the trust to the heavens and the earth and the mountains, but they refused to be unfaithful to it and feared from it, and man has turned unfaithful to it; surely he is unjust, ignorant;

(8) Saying: Surely we feared before on account of our families:

(9) You are certainly greater in being feared in their hearts than Allah; that is because they are a people who do not understand

(10) And they will not mind unless Allah please. He is worthy to be feared and worthy to forgive.
