(31) Then there shall come after that seven years of hardship which shall eat away all that you have beforehand laid up in store for them, except a little of what you shall have preserved:

(32) He will drink it little by little and will not be able to swallow it agreeably, and death will come to him from every quarter, but he shall not die; and there shall be vehement chastisement before him.

(33) And the parable of an evil word is as an evil tree pulled up from the earth's surface; it has no stability.

(34) And do not make your oaths a means of deceit between you, lest a foot should slip after its stability and you should taste evil because you turned away from Allah's way and grievous punishment be your (lot).

(35) A little enjoyment and they shall have a painful punishment.

(36) And make yourself submissively gentle to them with compassion, and say: O my Lord! have compassion on them, as they brought me up (when I was) little.

(37) On the day when He will call you forth, then shall you obey Him, giving Him praise, and you will think that you tarried but a little (while).

(38) And had it not been that We had already established you, you would certainly have been near to incline to them a little;

(39) And surely they purposed to unsettle you from the land that they might expel you from it, and in that case they will not tarry behind you but a little.

(40) And they ask you about the soul. Say: The soul is one of the commands of my Lord, and you are not given aught of knowledge but a little.
