(1) And follow that which the devils falsely related against the kingdom of solomon. solomon disbelieved not; but the devils disbelieved, teaching mankind magic and that which was revealed to the two angels in Babel, Harut and Marut. Nor did they (the two angels) teach it to anyone till they had said: We are only a temptation, therefore disbelieve not (in the guidance of Allah). And from these two (angles) people learn that by which they cause division between man and wife; but they injure thereby no-one save by Allah's leave. And they learn that which harmeth them and profiteth them not. And surely they do know that he who trafficketh therein will have no (happy) portion in the Hereafter; and surely evil is the price for which they sell their souls, if they but knew.

(2) Lo! We inspire thee as We inspired Noah and the prophets after him, as We inspired Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and the tribes, and Jesus and Job and Jonah and Aaron and solomon, and as We imparted unto David the Psalms;

(3) And We bestowed upon him Isaac and Jacob; each of them We guided; and Noah did We guide aforetime; and of his seed (We guided) David and solomon and Job and Joseph and Moses and Aaron. Thus do We reward the good.

(4) And David and solomon, when they gave judgment concerning the field, when people's sheep had strayed and browsed therein by night; and We were witnesses to their judgment.

(5) And We made solomon to understand (the case); and unto each of them We gave judgment and knowledge. And we subdued the hills and the birds to hymn (His) praise along with David. We were the doers (thereof).

(6) And unto solomon (We subdued) the wind in its raging. It set by his command toward the land which We had blessed. And of everything We are Aware.

(7) And We verily gave knowledge unto David and solomon, and they said: Praise be to Allah, Who hath preferred us above many of His believing slaves!

(8) And solomon was David's heir. And he said: O mankind! Lo! we have been taught the language of birds, and have been given (abundance) of all things. This surely is evident favour.

(9) And there were gathered together unto solomon his armies of the jinn and humankind, and of the birds, and they were set in battle order;

(10) Till, when they reached the Valley of the Ants, an ant exclaimed: O ants! Enter your dwellings lest solomon and his armies crush you, unperceiving.
