(311) He said: So surely We have tried your people after you, and the Samiri has led them astray.

(312) So Musa returned to his people wrathful, sorrowing. Said he: O my people! did not your Lord promise you a goodly promise: did then the time seem long to you, or did you wish that displeasure from your Lord should be due to you, so that you broke (your) promise to me?

(313) They said: We did not break (our) promise to you of our own accord, but we were made to bear the burdens of the ornaments of the people, then we made a casting of them, and thus did the Samiri suggest.

(314) And certainly Haroun had said to them before: O my people! you are only tried by it, and surely your Lord is the Beneficent Allah, therefore follow me and obey my order.

(315) And how many a town which was iniquitous did We demolish, and We raised up after it another people!

(316) When he said to his father and his people: What are these images to whose worship you cleave?

(317) Said they: Then bring him before the eyes of the people, perhaps they may bear witness.

(318) And We delivered him as well as Lut (removing them) to the land which We had blessed for all people.

(319) And We made them Imams who guided (people) by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good and the keeping up of prayer and the giving of the alms, and Us (alone) did they serve;

(320) And (as for) Lut, We gave him wisdom and knowledge, and We delivered him from the town which wrought abominations; surely they were an evil people, transgressors;
