(152) And nothing prevents men from believing when the guidance comes to them, and from asking forgiveness of their Lord, except that what happened to the ancients should overtake them, or that the chastisement should come face to face with them.

(153) And your Lord is Forgiving, the Lord of Mercy; were He to punish them for what they earn, He would certainly have hastened the chastisement for them; but for them there is an appointed time from which they shall not find a refuge.

(154) Until when he reached the place where the sun set, he found it going down into a black sea, and found by it a people. We said: O Zulqarnain! either give them a chastisement or do them a benefit.

(155) He said: As to him who is unjust, we will chastise him, then shall he be returned to his Lord, and He will chastise him with an exemplary chastisement:

(156) She said: When shall I have a boy and no mortal has yet touched me, nor have I been unchaste?

(157) O sister of Haroun! your father was not a bad man, nor, was your mother an unchaste woman.

(158) By no means! We write down what he says, and We will lengthen to him the length of the chastisement

(159) Therefore be not in haste against them, We only number out to them a number (of days).

(160) Both said: O our Lord! Surely we fear that he may hasten to do evil to us or that he may become inordinate.
