(41) Those whom they call upon, themselves seek the means of access to their Lord-- whoever of them is nearest-- and they hope for His mercy and fear His chastisement; surely the chastisement of your Lord is a thing to be cautious of.

(42) And they say: We will by no means believe in you until you cause a fountain to gush forth from the earth for us.

(43) And We strengthened their hearts with patience, when they stood up and said: Our Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth; we will by no means call upon any god besides Him, for then indeed we should have said an extravagant thing.

(44) And thus did We rouse them that they might question each other. A speaker among them said: How long have you tarried? They said: We have tarried for a day or a part of a day. (Others) said: Your Lord knows best how long you have tarried. Now send one of you with this silver (coin) of yours to the city, then let him see which of them has purest food, so let him bring you provision from it, and let him behave with gentleness, and by no means make your case known to any one:

(45) Surely We established him in the land and granted him means of access to every thing.

(46) By no means! We write down what he says, and We will lengthen to him the length of the chastisement

(47) By no means! They shall soon deny their worshipping them, and they shall be adversaries to them.

(48) They said: We will by no means cease to keep to its worship until Musa returns to us.

(49) Had We wished to make a diversion, We would have made it from before Ourselves: by no means would We do (it).

(50) And they ask you to hasten on the punishment, and Allah will by no means fail in His promise, and surely a day with your Lord is as a thousand years of what you number.
