(36) O ye who believe! follow not satan's footsteps: if any will follow the footsteps of satan, he will (but) command what is shameful and wrong: and were it not for the grace and mercy of Allah on you, not one of you would ever have been pure: but Allah doth purify whom He pleases: and Allah is One Who hears and knows (all things).

(37) "I found her and her people worshipping the sun besides Allah: satan has made their deeds seem pleasing in their eyes, and has kept them away from the Path,- so they receive no guidance,-

(38) And he entered the city at a time when its people were not watching: and he found there two men fighting,- one of his own religion, and the other, of his foes. Now the man of his own religion appealed to him against his foe, and Moses struck him with his fist and made an end of him. He said: "This is a work of Evil (satan): for he is an enemy that manifestly misleads!"

(39) When they are told to follow the (Revelation) that Allah has sent down, they say: "Nay, we shall follow the ways that we found our fathers (following). "What! even if it is satan beckoning them to the Penalty of the (Blazing) Fire?

(40) And on them did satan prove true his idea, and they followed him, all but a party that believed.
