(282) Then sent We our messengers in succession: every time there came to a people their messenger, they accused him of falsehood: so We made them follow each other (in punishment): We made them as a tale (that is told): So away with a people that will not believe!

(283) To Pharaoh and his Chiefs: But these behaved insolently: they were an arrogant people.

(284) They said: "Shall we believe in two men like ourselves? And their people are subject to us!"

(285) But people have cut off their affair (of unity), between them, into sects: each party rejoices in that which is with itself.

(287) They will say: "our Lord! Our misfortune overwhelmed us, and we became a people astray!

(288) Women impure are for men impure, and men impure for women impure and women of purity are for men of purity, and men of purity are for women of purity: these are not affected by what people say: for them there is forgiveness, and a provision honourable.

(289) We have already sent down to you verses making things clear, an illustration from (the story of) people who passed away before you, and an admonition for those who fear (Allah).

(290) They will say: "Glory to Thee! not meet was it for us that we should take for protectors others besides Thee: But Thou didst bestow, on them and their fathers, good things (in life), until they forgot the Message: for they were a people (worthless and) lost."
