(43) Such is the chastisement of thy Lord when He chastises communities in the midst of their wrong: grievous, indeed, and severe is His chastisement.

(44) Nor would thy Lord be the One to destroy communities for a single wrong-doing, if its members were likely to mend.

(45) And We turned (the cities) upside down, and rained down on them brimstones hard as baked clay.

(46) And the (cities were) right on the high-road.

(47) And the things on this earth which He has multiplied in varying colours (and qualities): verily in this is a sign for men who celebrate the praises of Allah (in gratitude).

(48) And there came to them a Messenger from among themselves, but they falsely rejected him; so the Wrath seized them even in the midst of their iniquities.

(49) Of the bounties of thy Lord We bestow freely on all- These as well as those: The bounties of thy Lord are not closed (to anyone).

(50) Then We roused them, in order to test which of the two parties was best at calculating the term of years they had tarried!
