(41) And We wished to be gracious to those who were being depressed in the land, to make them leaders (in Faith) and make them heirs,

(42) And those who had envied his position the day before began to say on the morrow: "Ah! it is indeed Allah Who enlarges the provision or restricts it, to any of His servants He pleases! had it not been that Allah was gracious to us, He could have caused the earth to swallow us up! Ah! those who reject Allah will assuredly never prosper."

(43) Thou canst but admonish such a one as follows the Message and fears the (Lord) Most gracious, unseen: give such a one, therefore, good tidings, of Forgiveness and a Reward most generous.

(44) The (people) said: "Ye are only men like ourselves; and (Allah) Most gracious sends no sort of revelation: ye do nothing but lie."

(45) "Shall I take (other) gods besides Him? If (Allah) Most gracious should intend some adversity for me, of no use whatever will be their intercession for me, nor can they deliver me.

(46) They will say: "Ah! Woe unto us! Who hath raised us up from our beds of repose?"... (A voice will say:) "This is what (Allah) Most gracious had promised. And true was the word of the messengers!"

(47) A Revelation from (Allah), Most gracious, Most Merciful;-

(48) gracious is Allah to His servants: He gives Sustenance to whom He pleases: and He has power and can carry out His Will.

(49) When news is brought to one of them of (the birth of) what he sets up as a likeness to (Allah) Most gracious, his face darkens, and he is filled with inward grief!

(50) ("Ah!") they say, "If it had been the will of (Allah) Most gracious, we should not have worshipped such (deities)!" Of that they have no knowledge! they do nothing but lie!
