(11) But the (Awful) Cry overtook them at the morning hour,

(12) We created not the heavens and the earth and all that is between them save with truth, and lo! the hour is surely coming. So forgive, (O Muhammad), with a gracious forgiveness.

(13) If Allah were to take mankind to task for their wrong-doing, he would not leave hereon a living creature, but He reprieveth them to an appointed term, and when their term cometh they cannot put (it) off an hour nor (yet) advance (it).

(14) And unto Allah belongeth the Unseen of the heavens and the earth, and the matter of the hour (of Doom) is but as a twinkling of the eye, or it is nearer still. Lo! Allah is Able to do all things.

(15) And in like manner We disclosed them (to the people of the city) that they might know that the promise of Allah is true, and that, as for the hour, there is no doubt concerning it. When (the people of the city) disputed of their case among themselves, they said: Build over them a building; their Lord knoweth best concerning them. Those who won their point said: We verily shall build a place of worship over them.

(16) I think not that the hour will ever come, and if indeed I am brought back unto my Lord I surely shall find better than this as a resort.

(17) Say: As for him who is in error, the Beneficent will verily prolong his span of life until, when they behold that which they were promised, whether it be punishment (in the world), or the hour (of doom), they will know who is worse in position and who is weaker as an army.

(18) Lo! the hour is surely coming. But I will to keep it hidden, that every soul may be rewarded for that which it striveth (to achieve).

(19) Therefor (O Muhammad), bear with what they say, and celebrate the praise of thy Lord ere the rising of the sun and ere the going down thereof. And glorify Him some hours of the night and at the two ends of the day, that thou mayst find acceptance.

(20) Those who fear their Lord in secret and who dread the hour (of doom).
