(44) And it is a Quran which We have revealed in portions so that you may read it to the people by slow degrees, and We have revealed it, revealing in portions.

(45) And had there not been a word (that had) already gone forth from your Lord and an appointed term, it would surely have been made to cleave (to them).

(46) Surely (as for) those for whom the good has already gone forth from Us, they shall be kept far off from it;

(47) And if they reject you, then already before you did the people of Nuh and Ad and Samood reject (prophets).

(48) And already We overtook them with chastisement, but they were not submissive to their Lord, nor do they humble themselves.

(49) And they say: The stories of the ancients-- he has got them written-- so these are read out to him morning and evening.

(50) And when We make people taste of mercy they rejoice in it, and if an evil befall them for what their hands have already wrought, lo! they are in despair.
