(33) And how many a generation before them have We destroyed! Canst thou (Muhammad) see a single man of them, or hear from them the slightest sound?

(34) Saying: Throw him into the ark, and throw it into the river, then the river shall throw it on to the bank, and there an enemy to Me and an enemy to him shall take him. And I endued thee with love from Me that thou mightest be trained according to My will,

(35) He said: They are close upon my track. I hastened unto Thee, my Lord, that Thou mightest be well pleased.

(36) And that thou thirstest not therein nor art exposed to the sun's heat.

(37) He said: Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them; and I am of those who testify unto that.

(38) They said: Then bring him (hither) before the people's eyes that they may testify.

(39) They will not hear the slightest sound thereof, while they abide in that which their souls desire.

(40) Lo! herein verily are portents, for lo! We are ever putting (mankind) to the test.
