(31) "O my Lord! Thou hast indeed bestowed on me some power, and taught me something of the interpretation of dreams and events,- O Thou Creator of the heavens and the earth! Thou art my Protector in this world and in the Hereafter. Take Thou my soul (at death) as one submitting to Thy will (as a Muslim), and unite me with the righteous."

(32) In gulps will he sip it, but never will he be near swallowing it down his throat: death will come to him from every quarter, yet will he not die: and in front of him will be a chastisement unrelenting.

(33) And verily, it is We Who give life, and Who give death: it is We Who remain inheritors (after all else passes away).

(34) And Allah sends down rain from the skies, and gives therewith life to the earth after its death: verily in this is a Sign for those who listen.

(35) It is Allah who creates you and takes your souls at death; and of you there are some who are sent back to a feeble age, so that they know nothing after having known (much): for Allah is All-Knowing, All-Powerful.

(36) In that case We should have made thee taste an equal portion (of punishment) in this life, and an equal portion in death: and moreover thou wouldst have found none to help thee against Us!

(37) Thou wouldst only, perchance, fret thyself to death, following after them, in grief, if they believe not in this Message.

(38) Nor did We give them bodies that ate no food, nor were they exempt from death.

(39) Every soul shall have a taste of death: and We test you by evil and by good by way of trial. to Us must ye return.

(40) It is He Who gives life and death, and to Him (is due) the alternation of Night and Day: will ye not then understand?
