(1) And when he saw the moon uprising, he exclaimed: This is my Lord. But when it set, he said: Unless my Lord guide me, I surely shall become one of the folk who are astray.

(2) And when he saw the sun uprising, he cried: This is my Lord! This is greater! And when it set he exclaimed: O my people! Lo! I am free from all that ye associate (with Him).

(3) Till, when he reached the rising-place of the sun, he found it rising on a people for whom We had appointed no shelter therefrom.

(4) Therefor (O Muhammad), bear with what they say, and celebrate the praise of thy Lord ere the rising of the sun and ere the going down thereof. And glorify Him some hours of the night and at the two ends of the day, that thou mayst find acceptance.

(5) Lord of the heavens and of the earth and all that is between them, and Lord of the sun's risings.

(6) He placed therein firm hills rising above it, and blessed it and measured therein its sustenance in four Days, alike for (all) who ask;

(7) Therefor (O Muhammad) bear with what they say, and hymn the praise of thy Lord before the rising and before the setting of the sun;

(8) But nay! I swear by the Lord of the rising-places and the setting-places of the planets that We verily are Able

(9) (The night is) Peace until the rising of the dawn.
