(171) When you received it with your tongues and spoke with your mouths what you had no knowledge of, and you deemed it an easy matter while with Allah it was grievous.

(172) And on the day when He shall gather them, and whatever they served besides Allah, He shall say: was it you who led astray these My servants, or did they themselves go astray from the path?

(173) They shall say: Glory be to Thee; it was not beseeming for us that we should take any guardians besides Thee, but Thou didst make them and their fathers to enjoy until they forsook the reminder, and they were a people in perdition,

(174) And certainly they have (often) passed by the town on which was rained an evil rain; did they not then see it? Nay! they did not hope to be raised again.

(175) He said: I did it then while I was of those unable to see the right course;

(176) So he cast down his rod, and lo! it was an obvious serpent,

(177) And it was said to the people: Will you gather together?

(178) Then We revealed to Musa: Strike the sea with your staff. So it had cloven asunder, and each part was like a huge mound.

(179) And We rained down upon them a rain, and evil was the rain on those warned.

(180) But they called him a liar, so the punishment of the day of covering overtook them; surely it was the punishment of a grievous day.
