(23) Knowest thou not that Allah knows all that is in heaven and on earth? Indeed it is all in a Record, and that is easy for Allah.

(24) Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The Parable of His Light is as if there were a Niche and within it a Lamp: the Lamp enclosed in Glass: the glass as it were a brilliant star: Lit from a blessed Tree, an Olive, neither of the east nor of the west, whose oil is well-nigh luminous, though fire scarce touched it: Light upon Light! Allah doth guide whom He will to His Light: Allah doth set forth Parables for men: and Allah doth know all things.

(25) "And thou didst a deed of thine which (thou knowest) thou didst, and thou art an ungrateful (wretch)!"

(26) (Moses) said: "Lord of the East and the west, and all between! if ye only had sense!"

(27) Then, when he decided to lay hold of the man who was an enemy to both of them, that man said: "O Moses! Is it thy intention to slay me as thou slewest a man yesterday? Thy intention is none other than to become a powerful violent man in the land, and not to be one who sets things right!"

(28) Thou wast not on the western side when We decreed the Commission to Moses, nor wast thou a witness (of those events).

(29) And thus have We, by Our Command, sent inspiration to thee: thou knewest not (before) what was Revelation, and what was Faith; but We have made the (Qur'an) a Light, wherewith We guide such of Our servants as We will; and verily thou dost guide (men) to the Straight Way,-

(30) At length, when (such a one) comes to Us, he says (to his evil companion): "Would that between me and thee were the distance of East and west!" Ah! evil is the companion (indeed)!
