(41) Nay, but I let these and their fathers enjoy life (only) till there should come unto them the Truth and a messenger making plain.

(42) How can there be remembrance for them, when a messenger making plain (the Truth) had already come unto them,

(43) Now when ye meet in battle those who disbelieve, then it is smiting of the necks until, when ye have routed them, then making fast of bonds; and afterward either grace or ransom till the war lay down its burdens. That (is the ordinance). And if Allah willed He could have punished them (without you) but (thus it is ordained) that He may try some of you by means of others. And those who are slain in the way of Allah, He rendereth not their actions vain.

(44) O ye who believe! Lift not up your voices above the voice of the Prophet, nor shout when speaking to him as ye shout one to another, lest your works be rendered vain while ye perceive not.

(45) Taking that which their Lord giveth them; for lo! aforetime they were doers of good;

(46) Then his wife came forward, making moan, and smote her face, and cried: A barren old woman!

(47) There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination

(48) O Prophet! If believing women come unto thee, taking oath of allegiance unto thee that they will ascribe no thing as partner unto Allah, and will neither steal nor commit adultery nor kill their children, nor produce any lie that they have devised between their hands and feet, nor disobey thee in what is right, then accept their allegiance and ask Allah to forgive them. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

(49) When the hypocrites come unto thee (O Muhammad), they say: We bear witness that thou art indeed Allah's messenger. And Allah knoweth that thou art indeed His messenger, and Allah beareth witness that the hypocrites indeed are speaking falsely.

(50) And bear with patience what they utter, and part from them with a fair leave-taking.
