(1551) Verily, this is in the former Scriptures -

(1552) Glad with their endeavour (for their good deeds which they did in this world, along with the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism).

(1553) As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and bounties, then he says (in exultation): "My Lord has honoured me."

(1554) But when He tries him by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!"

(1555) He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!"

(1556) I swear by this city (Makkah);

(1557) And you are free (from sin, and to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah).

(1558) And by the begetter (i.e. Adam عليه السلام) and that which he begot (i.e. his progeny).

(1559) Indeed he succeeds who purifies his ownself (i.e. obeys and performs all that Allah ordered, by following the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism and by doing righteous good deeds).

(1560) And indeed he fails who corrupts his ownself (i.e. disobeys what Allah has ordered by rejecting the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism or by following polytheism or by doing every kind of evil wicked deeds).
