(72) Is it then that they do not ponder over what is said, or is it that there has come to them that which did not come to their fathers of old?

(73) Certainly we are promised this, and (so were) our fathers aforetime; this is naught but stories of those of old.

(74) Or like utter darkness in the deep sea: there covers it a wave above which is another wave, above which is a cloud, (layers of) utter darkness one above another; when he holds out his hand, he is almost unable to see it; and to whomsoever Allah does not give light, he has no light.

(75) Do not hold the Apostle's calling (you) among you to be like your calling one to the other; Allah indeed knows those who steal away from among you, concealing themselves; therefore let those beware who go against his order lest a trial afflict them or there befall them a painful chastisement.

(76) He said: Your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old.

(77) Then Musa cast down his staff and lo! it swallowed up the lies they told.

(78) Except an old woman, among those who remained behind.

(79) He said: We will see whether you have told the truth or whether you are of the liars:

(80) And when he came to the water of Madyan, he found on it a group of men watering, and he found besides them two women keeping back (their flocks). He said: What is the matter with you? They said: We cannot water until the shepherds take away (their sheep) from the water, and our father is a very old man.
